When you fall out of love with your career

career planning life purpose personal development

It starts as a nagging feeling that lies just under the surface, ever present.

You try to push it down and wonder when it’ll finally go away, but it only grows stronger until it becomes something that gnaws at you every single day, in every single moment.

You’re at a complete loss for what to do.

You don’t quite know what’s wrong but something in your life feels very off.

You’ve invested so much time, energy and money into getting to where you are now, but you can’t continue living like this anymore.

→ You dread going into work. It’s getting harder and harder to fake it.

→ It’s wreaking havoc on your mental health.

→ Your relationships are becoming strained.

→ Your work performance is starting to slip.

This isn’t the real you — and you know it.

But what changed?

When Everything Changes Overnight

It’s like you were going about your business, life was moving along just fine, and then suddenly a switch flipped. Everything that once felt okay now feels completely wrong.

Here’s the truth: those uncomfortable feelings, those restless motions stirring within you — they’re like a sophisticated internal guidance system telling you that something is off. Something about your current path isn’t aligned with who you’re meant to be, and you desperately need to course correct.

But course correct to what, exactly?

What are you actually supposed to be doing with your life?

Questions to Uncover Your True Path

Start with these powerful questions to help illuminate your direction:

1. If money weren’t a consideration, what would you want to do for work?

2. What did you absolutely love doing as a kid between ages 7 and 14?

3. What has recently sparked your joy and excitement?

These questions cut through the noise of societal expectations and practical concerns to reveal what truly lights you up from the inside. Use this as a starting point to figure out which direction you’re meant to go in.

Can I be real with you? I’m going to hit you with some woo-woo spiritual talk right now.

Before you came into this life, you agreed to a few things to get out of this life.

It could have been certain lessons, experiences, cleaning up of karma, honing certain values, etc.

If you’re feeling this nagging feeling, you’re likely way off course with what you agreed to do, especially if you also agreed to not only grow as a soul, but also support the collective consciousness of Earth, ie. doing more than just living life for you.

You’re being gently reminded to get on that path and if you don’t start to listen, the gentle whisper may turn into a roar.

5 Ways to Connect with Your Inner Guidance

Here are some practical steps you can take to help those intuitive insights about your purpose start flowing:

1. Add Creative Expression to Your Week

Commit to a creative activity 1–3 times per week. Consider painting, journaling, writing, playing an instrument, coloring, crocheting, or knitting. You get the idea. The key here is to leave all inputs out — no music, podcasts, shows, or movies while you create. Let your mind wander freely.

2. Embrace Meditative Activities

Engage in something that allows you to let go and slip into a peaceful, trance-like state. Try meditation, breathing exercises, running, or yoga. These activities create space for the mind to slip into a trance, which allows deeper knowing to emerge.

3. Learn Your Intuitive Language

Get to know how your body communicates your “yes” and “no” responses. Understanding how you personally receive intuitive information is crucial for making aligned decisions. (There’s a course specifically designed to help with this!)

4. Visualize Your Perfect Day

Take time to imagine what your ideal day would look like from start to finish. Pay close attention to the details — these are clues your subconscious is leaving to help you discover what truly fulfills you. If you need a guided meditation, here’s a good one that’s only 12 minutes long.

5. Seek Outside Support

Sometimes we need an external perspective to see what we can’t see ourselves. This could mean working with a therapist, life coach, or spiritual guide who can help you navigate this transformation.

You are not broken and you are in good company

I’ve walked this path.

I felt this call in 2018 when I started to get the whisper “Remember who you are.” It grew to a roar by the end of 2020 when I was having burnout symptoms.

I couldn’t take deep breaths.

I could hear my heart in my ears and feel it pounding out of my chest.

I would cry about everything.

I would either starve myself or stuff my face full of food.

I was unravelling and by early 2021, I left the financial services industry that I had worked in for 20+ years, wondering why I had poured money into an MBA and worked so hard all those years.

So know that if you’re feeling called to explore your soul’s purpose more deeply, I can help. Those that seem to be drawn to working with me right now are professionals (and some entrepreneurs) who are feeling this nagging, tugging feeling and don’t know what to do next.

There is a way to discover and step into your authentic path — the answers are already within you.

To get you started, I've created a 7-point checklist to assist your analysis. This checklist is ideal to go through when your career looks right on paper, but something just isn’t clicking.

And if you're already at the point of thinking "I'm way past a checklist - I need help now." let's have a short chat and see if we're a good match to working together.
