Your conscious mind consists of all the thoughts you know you're thinking—the things you're aware of day to day. When you say affirmations like "I am a magnet for money" or "I am enough," your conscious mind is on board.

But your subconscious? That's where things get tricky.

Your subconscious mind is like a massive storage unit containing every experience, belief, and program you've accumulated—not just since birth, but potentially across multiple lifetimes. Yes, I operate under the belief that we carry forward experiences from past lives, and those experiences shape our current reality in ways we don't even realize.

Imagine this: maybe in a past life, you learned that having money wasn't safe. Maybe wealthy people got targeted or killed, so your soul learned "money equals danger." Now, in this life, you're wondering why you struggle to make or keep money, not realizing there's a program running in the background that says "it's not safe to have money."

The Train Analogy That Changed Everything

Abraham Hicks has this perfect analogy that really illustrates what's happening. Picture a train that you want to move in one direction—let's say toward "I am a magnet for money." You're pulling the train this way with your conscious affirmations.

But at the other end of the train is the opposite belief: "It's not safe to have money." This belief is trying to pull the train in the opposite direction.

You've got this constant battle, this back and forth. You're saying your affirmation over and over, wanting to believe it's true, but the program that's actually running in your subconscious has more power. It's running the show.

This is why you might look at your life and wonder, "Why isn't money coming? Why isn't it staying?" It's because the belief sitting in your subconscious is stronger and more established than the new affirmation you're trying to install.

How to Test What's Really Going On in Your Subconscious

Want to know if your subconscious is working against your affirmations? There's actually a way to test this using your body as a live pendulum through muscle testing.

Here's how to do it:

First, make sure you're properly hydrated. Drink a glass of water—this is crucial for accurate muscle testing.

Stand with your feet hip-width apart, arms comfortably at your sides. Close your eyes and say out loud: "Body, show me a yes."

You should feel a slight tip forward, as if something's pulling you forward or someone's giving you a gentle push from behind.

Then test the "no" response. Eyes closed, say: "Body, show me a no."

You should feel yourself going backward instead of forward.

If you're not getting clear responses or you're swaying side to side, you need more water. Hydration is key for this to work properly.

Testing Your Affirmations

Once you've established your yes/no responses, you can test specific beliefs. Here are three powerful ones to try:

For positive affirmations you want to be true, use this format:

  • "On all levels, I am a magnet for money"
  • "On all levels, I am enough"

For negative beliefs you want to identify, use this format:

  • "On any level, I fear being visible"

If you test "no" on the positive affirmations, it means your subconscious doesn't actually believe them—even though you consciously want them to be true.

If you test "yes" on negative beliefs (like fearing visibility), it means somewhere in your subconscious, that fear is residing and potentially holding you back from things like starting a YouTube channel, speaking on stage, or giving presentations.
